Research Area:
The research team takes a holistic approach towards the universal issue of the built heritage. The group explores the contexts of international rural architecture, focusing on architectural or other multidisciplinary values that require a comprehensive approach.

As a specific field of interest, China-located architecture is in the forefront. The international designers of built environment draw on the academic network  and build on the  knowledge accumulated through the activities of the so-called '4x4 Workshop Group'. The joining member of the research team, the 'Institute of City Architecture Design of NTBY' Company offers space for on-site work as an external location for each project.

Research Objectives:

Through its professional work and scientific area, the research group is a bilateral platform for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology's Institute of Architecture, the Marcel Breuer Doctoral School, and the 4x4 Workshop Group's Chinese academic members. Within the framework of the research group, there is continuous and ongoing bilateral professional work, the primary output of which is reflected in education, international training, and cooperatively organized workshops.

Through its research themes, the research group can develop unique and universal professional conclusions on international heritage protection in an organized framework in a national and Chinese context. The research group welcomes doctoral students with a Chinese background, offers a platform for further national and international postgraduate students, and also dedicates resources to international architectural design competitions and architectural projects. It publishes its results in journals regularly, presents them in exhibitions and elaborates them in book format.

Establishing the research group will also provide opportunities for short-cycle training, bilateral professional development, knowledge sharing, as well as creative and scientific exchange.
