Student Card

Exchange and International students are provided with a student ID card with which they can have the same advantages as Hungarian students, e.g. reduced fares for all public transport, reduced-price entrance tickets for museums, Youth Hostel accommodation and library membership, and sports facilities free of charge.

Discounts with the Hungarian student card

  • 50% discount when buying a monthly pass for public transport (diákbérlet)
  • 50% discount on travelling by train
  • 50% discount on travelling by bus
  • 50% discount on membership fees in public libraries
  • 50-100% discount on entrance fees in particular museum


Applying for a Student Card for the first time

STEP 1:  Documentation Office (Okmányiroda)

Address: Pécs, Kossuth tér 2. (in the city centre)

Opening hours:

Monday: 8:00-18:00

Tuesday: 8:00-15:00

Wednesday: 8:00-16:00

Thursday: 8:00-16:00

Friday: 8:00-15:00

What happens there: they take a photo of you and record your signature

What to take with you:

• your ID or Passport,

• residence permit/registration certificate (from the Immigration Office)

• address card, if you have one


You will get: a data-sheet; on the top right corner, you will find a so-called "NEK azonosító" that you'll need for STEP 2 (Keep your NEK data sheet, it is valid for 5 years. In case if you lose your student card, you don't need to go to the Documentation Office again.)

Check your data that every character is correct and identical to your Passport. If not, let them know immediately. Otherwise, your application will be stopped, and you will need to return for a new NEK sheet.


STEP 2: Fill out the Student ID application form in Neptun

Open Neptun.

Please, check your data in the Neptun against the NEK data sheet before requesting because to get the student card produced, the correct matching of characters is necessary. If you find any discrepancies, please get in touch with your Registrar's Office before requesting.

        → Add new

1) Type in your NEK identification number (16-digit number in the top right corner of the NEK sheet you received in the Documentation Office)

Please enter without hyphens (example: 000000BAR0000000).

2) Demand type: first application

3) Training: you have to see your major there

4) Address: Please choose your home country address (permanent address)!

5) Secondary institution and Printing code of the secondary institution: Please, leave it blank unless you also attend another university in Hungary.

6) Save


STEP 3: Temporary card

You can receive a temporary card certification from Registry Office if

  • you have an Education ID in Neptun, Neptun/My data/Personal Information. It automatically appears a few days after the Registry Office registers your enrolment sheet. Without it, Registry Office cannot print a temporary card.
  • the FIR status appears (2-3 days after the student card application was saved in Neptun) in Neptun/Administration/Student Card request next to your application. Usually, 2-3 days after the student card application is saved.

A temporary card is valid for 60 days and can be renewed. In about 60 days, the permanent card will be mailed to the Registry Office; you will receive an email, and then you can take it over in Window No.6.


STEP 4: Validation sticker

You will need to pick up both the temporary and the permanent student card at your Faculty’s Registrar’s Office (B025). It is valid with a semester sticker, and it has to be renewed each semester!

Collection period of stickers:

  • in Spring semester: 1 March - 31 March
  • in the Autumn semester: 1 October - 31 October

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: 8.30-11.30

Thursday: 8.30-11.30, 13.00-15.00 and Friday: 8.30-12.00
