The collaboration with Shanghai
Institute of Technology started in 2014 and by now has spread towards other
Faculties of the University of Pécs, such as the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty
of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts. Lecturers
and researchers of both universities meet and coordinate their operational
cooperation at dedicated programs as well as conferences and projects.
SIT School of Urban Construction and
Safety Engineering has around 1900 students, mostly in the fields of
engineering and natural sciences; its leading trainings being civil
engineering, landscaping, mechanical engineering, food production, materials
and art.
As a result of years of cooperation, we pride ourselves on having nearly 70 students from SIT who have obtained a degree at the University of Pécs, chosen for admission by the colleagues working in the cooperation. Besides student exchange, lecturers have also spent semesters at the partner institution and, as a reward for this collaboration, Professor Chen Qingchang, university professor and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of SIT received the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” from the Rector of the University of Pécs in 2016.
The main elements of the cooperation:
1)
Architecture joint MSc program
Thanks
to the net of equivalency built up between the University of Pécs and SIT,
their trainings of architecture are interchangeable in a controlled way. Within
the framework of the so-called 3+2 program, UP FEIT has welcomed undergraduate
students at its trainings since 2013 and following the years spent at the
University of Pécs; these Chinese (SIT) students can obtain a Master’s degree. A
professional committee is involved in the selection of students on both sides and
examines the portfolio and language skills of applicants.
2)
One-semester visiting professor program
One
of the main objectives of this project is the “exchange” of lecturers between
the two institutions. Two senior lecturers of the Institute of Architecture of
the UP have spent one semester each at SIT where they gave lectures in English
language and participated in the preparation of urban design and urban
development plans of Shanghai.
3)
Cooperation regarding the Doctoral School
As
a result of recent years, close-to-the-profession cooperation has brought up the possibility for joint
training at doctoral level. Chen Quinchang, Doctor Honoris Causa of the
University of Pécs is integrated in the Doctoral School of the UP FEIT as an
external tutor (supervisor) and thus the doctoral training of lecturers from
SIT is able to combine local contents with the objectives of the Doctoral
School at European level.
