ICDL Examination Centre Established at UP FEIT to Strengthen Digital Literacy

4 May 2026

In
cooperation with the John von Neumann Computer Society (Neumann János
Számítógéptudományi Társaság / NJSZT), an ICDL examination centre began
operations on 1 April at the Faculty of Engineering and Information
Technology of the University of Pécs (UP FEIT)
.

The International
Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) is a globally recognised digital
competence certification system, operating in more than 100 countries
and widely accepted in both education and the labour market. The newly
established examination centre at UP FEIT also offers preparatory
courses, creating new opportunities to make the development and reliable
assessment of digital skills accessible to an even wider audience in
the region.

The NJSZT plays a key role in operating the ICDL
system in Hungary. Its nearly decade-long collaboration with the Faculty
was further strengthened at this year’s Pollack Expo through the
signing of a cooperation agreement focusing on education, talent
development, digital skills enhancement, and joint professional
innovation.

Founded in 1968, the John von Neumann Computer
Society (NJSZT) is one of Hungary’s oldest and most influential
professional communities in the field of information technology. Its
mission is to support the advancement of digital culture, strengthen
digital competencies, contribute to education, and foster professional
innovation and collaboration. In addition to coordinating the ICDL
system in Hungary, the Society operates a nationwide professional
network and organises competitions, scientific events, and community
programmes.

Together with UP FEIT, one of the leading engineering
and IT education centres in the South Transdanubian region, the Society
has organised the PROGRACE National Programming Competition eight
times, supporting the identification and development of young IT talents
among secondary school and university students. In recent years, the
cooperation between the two institutions has extended beyond competition
organisation to include the joint preparation and implementation of
national and international projects. This partnership is now further
reinforced through the launch of the ICDL examination centre in Pécs and
the newly signed cooperation agreement.

“ICDL is the most widely
recognised, internationally standardised certification of digital
literacy. It covers a broad range of modules, from basic computer skills
and image editing to IT security, along with next-generation modules
such as coding fundamentals and robotics, as well as Advanced-level
professional modules. At UP FEIT, we plan to launch
courses in
computer and online fundamentals, word processing, and spreadsheet
management, while also operating as an official ICDL examination centre.
For our Faculty, this represents an excellent opportunity for students
to obtain internationally recognised digital certification; for
secondary school students, ICDL accreditation may provide additional
points in university admission procedures; and for adult learners or job
seekers, enhanced digital competencies can offer a competitive
advantage in the labour market,” said Gábor Gyurák, Master Lecturer at
UP FEIT and Head of the ICDL Examination Centre.

He added that
the newly established cooperation also enables closer engagement with
several professional sections of the NJSZT, which may further support
the deepening of IT knowledge among young people, the development of
professional teaching materials, and participation in international
conferences in the future.
