CEEPUS Programme

CEEPUS Programme
CEEPUS, the Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies, is a Central European higher education mobility programme designed to foster cooperation between higher education institutions and to support student and academic staff mobility. It is an important instrument of regional cooperation beyond the European Union framework. The programme has operated since 1995 and currently involves 16 countries. The main objective of CEEPUS is to strengthen academic links between universities in Central European countries, support the mobility of teachers and students, and promote the establishment and operation of regional university networks.

Main opportunities offered by the programme
Network mobility
Mobility takes place within networks established between universities in the participating countries. Networks are built around specific topics, disciplines, or research areas. Students and teachers can participate in mobility activities within these networks.
Individual mobility / Freemover mobility
Mobility is also possible when the applicant’s home institution is not part of a given CEEPUS network. Applicants may apply on their own initiative for a scholarship/grant for a study or teaching stay at another eligible partner institution.

Participating countries

  • Albania
  • Austria
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • North Macedonia
  • Croatia
  • Kosovo
  • Poland
  • Hungary
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia

Flexible Course
A Flexible Course consists of modules delivered by different teachers and awards 3 ECTS credits.

Application and funding
CEEPUS scholarships/grants are financed by the host country. Each country therefore determines its own grant amounts and specific conditions. Support may include:

  • coverage of living costs, including accommodation, meals, and local transport;
  • tuition fee exemption at the host institution;
  • health insurance arrangements, depending on the country-specific rules.

Key benefits

  • Strengthening Central European academic links: cooperation between universities is enhanced and regional scientific relationships are developed.
  • Cost-effective opportunity: the grant covers key expenses, making the programme broadly accessible.
  • Knowledge and experience exchange: students and teachers can become familiar with new teaching methods and research perspectives.
  • Cultural experience: participants can discover new countries and cultures.

3. ABCD Network – Architecture, Built Environment, City Planning, and Design Network
Urbanisation has accelerated significantly over the past century, and today more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. This unprecedented growth creates complex challenges, including inadequate urban planning, climate change, traffic congestion, and social inequalities. Addressing these multifaceted problems requires an interdisciplinary approach that integrates knowledge from architecture, urban planning, and settlement development. This approach fosters creativity, critical thinking, and sustainable problem-solving, which are key competences for the cities of the future. The ABCD Network brings together 16 universities to improve education in architecture, urban planning, and settlement planning. By promoting academic and student mobility and by organising summer universities, professional study visits, and joint courses, the network builds a collaborative platform for addressing urban challenges. This cooperation strengthens the quality of education and supports innovation.
