Hungarian Folk Dance Night

Date:

Hungarian folk dance is one of the most vibrant and colorful cultural heritages of the Carpathian Basin. It did not start out as a stage spectacle: it was originally part of everyday life in rural communities, where music and dance naturally brought people together.
The Hungarian dance house method is known worldwide: traditional dances are taught to live music in a community setting.
Participants are not spectators, but active participants, which is what makes the tradition truly alive and tangible.
In dance houses, after dance lessons, participants improvise pair and men's dances according to the dance order and repertoire of the given village.
The dances of the villagers have moved to the cities, but the dance experience has remained the same.
Hungarian folk music is one of Europe's most unique musical traditions. Its roots go back more than a thousand years, and it carries both the common heritage of the peoples of the Carpathian Basin and the distinctive sound of Hungarian culture.
Every village had musicians who, according to their talent but in the style of the given region, elevated instrumental music to a masterful level.
As a result, the music of each village is different, but carries uniform characteristics within each region. Authentically expressing this diversity is a great task, a never-ending learning process.
The members of the Bohaj Band came into contact with Hungarian folk dance and folk music years and decades ago, and have been playing together since 2020.
At concerts, when accompanying folk dance groups, or at dance houses, they strive to authentically perform the folk music of the Hungarian-speaking region.
Their repertoire includes music from Hungary, Upper Hungary, Moldavia, and Transylvania.

From 7 p.m., we offer an hour-long dance workshop in English.
